  • Few words about this Disease.

    What is Chlamydia?
CHLAMYDIA is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium, Chlamydia Trachomatis, which can damage a woman's reproductive organs. Even though symptoms of Chlamydia are usually mild or absent, serious complications that cause irreversible damage, including infertility, can occur "silently" before a woman ever recognizes a problem. Chlamydia also can cause discharge from the penis of an infected man.

    How common is Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is the most frequently reported bacterial sexually transmitted disease in the United States. In 2009, 1,244,180 Chlamydia infections were reported to CDC from 50 states and the District of Columbia. Under-reporting is substantial because most people with Chlamydia are not aware of their infections and do not seek testing. Also, testing is not often done if patients are treated for their symptoms. An estimated 2.8 million infections occur annually in the U.S. Women are frequently re-infected if their sex partners are not treated.

    How do people get Chlamydia?
Chlamydia can be transmitted during vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Chlamydia can also be passed from an infected mother to her baby during vaginal childbirth.

Any sexually active person can be infected with Chlamydia. The greater the number of sex partners, the greater the risk of infection. Because the cervix (opening to the uterus) of teenage girls and young women is not fully matured and is probably more susceptible to infection, they are at particularly high risk for infection if sexually active. Since Chlamydia can be transmitted by oral or anal sex, men who have sex with men are also at risk for Chlamydia infection.
What are the symptoms of Chlamydia?
Chlamydia is known as a "silent" disease because the majority of infected people have no symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they usually appear within 1 to 3 weeks after exposure.
In women, the bacteria initially infect the cervix and the urethra (urine canal). Women who have symptoms might have an abnormal vaginal discharge or a burning sensation when urinating. If the infection spreads from the cervix to the fallopian tubes (tubes that carry fertilized eggs from the ovaries to the uterus), some women still have no signs or symptoms; others have lower abdominal pain, low back pain, nausea, fever, pain during intercourse, or bleeding between menstrual periods. Chlamydia infection of the cervix can spread to the rectum.
Men with signs or symptoms might have a discharge from their penis or a burning sensation when urinating. Men might also have burning and itching around the opening of the penis. Pain and swelling in the testicles are uncommon.
Men or women who have receptive anal intercourse may acquire Chlamydia infection in the rectum, which can cause rectal pain, discharge, or bleeding. Chlamydia can also be found in the throats of women and men having oral sex with an infected partner.

Cobeco Pharma – Chlamydia body Tester.
Cobeco has realised the need of many modern women to have a discreet and domestic health check on many sexually transmitted diseases and therefore has created a line of body testers. Chlamydia body test is one of them.

    Product Description
Chlamydia especially affects modern, young women. One problem is that the infection in this group often goes unnoticed. A quick diagnosis is very important to prevent other people from becoming infected or become infertile yourself. To be absolutely certain whether you are infected or not, you should always go to see your doctor. One doctor will make a special swab, the other uses a urine test or a vaginal smear using a cotton stick. Would you like to test yourself first on whether you were infected during unprotected sex? Test yourself with the Body-Test Chlamydia for Women. You can do so by using a cotton swab stick. After 20 minutes you will have your first indication. Easy, at home and discreet.

    PRECAUTIONS

Do not use the kit if the pouch is punctured or not well sealed. Keep out of the reach of children. Create a sterile environment.

Do not eat, drink or smoke in the area where specimens and kit are handled. Wear protective clothing.

    CONTENTS

One test contains 2 cotton swabs, 1 test cassette, a dropper as extraction tube, buffer liquid A and B and a desiccant. The desiccant is for storage purposes only, and is not used in the test procedures.

    STORAGE AND STABILITY

Store at 4 ~ 30 ºC in the sealed pouch up to the expiration date. Keep away from direct sunlight, moisture and heat.

    REQUIREMENTS

Clean and dry level surface, disposable gloves and the BodyTest Chlamydia.

    PROCEDURE OF THE TEST

Test must be in room temperature (18ºC to 30ºC) .

    1. Use the first swab provide with the kit to remove excessive mucus from the endocervical area. !Failure to remove mucus may result in false-positive results.

    2. Insert the second swab into the endocervical canal until most of the tip is no longer visible. Rotate the swab for 15-30 seconds,

witdraw it without touching any vaginal surface. The swab can be stored in a plastic tube refrigerated at 4 - 8˚C. Conduct the test within 72 hours.

    3. Fill the extraction tube with 3 drops of extraction solution buffer A.

    4. Immerse the swab in the extraction tube and swirl the swab vigorously for 10 seconds to ensure adequate mixing.

    5. Place the extraction tube, containing the swab, into a test tube rack (not provided) and leave for 10-15 minutes at room temperature.

    6. At the end of this time remove liquid from the swab by twisting it against the tube wall. Discard the swab into a disinfectant

    container.

    7. Now add 1 drop Buffer liquid B into the extraction tube and mix well. Leave this for 10-15 minutes.

    8. Open the sealed pouch by tearing along the notch. Remove the test device from the pouch, and place it on a flat, dry surface.

    9. Close the dropper with the filter cap and holding the sample dropper above the test disk, squeeze 3 drops of specimen

    into the sample well.

    10. Interpret test results after 20 minutes.

    INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS

    1. A color band will appear at the left section of the Result Window to show that the test is working properly. This band is the Control Band (“C” band).

    2. The right section of the Result Window indicates the test results. If another color band appears at the right section of the Result Window it is the Test Band (“T” band).

    Positive Result:

The presence of two color bands (“T” and “C” bands) within the result window regardless of which band appears first indicates a positive result. Note: Generally, the higher the amount of antibodies in the specimen, the stronger the

“T” band color will be. When the amount of antibodies is close to but still within the sensitivity limit of the test, the color of the

“T” band will be very faint.

    Negative Result:

The presence of only one purple color band (“C” band), within the Result Window, indicates a negative result.

    Invalid:

If after performing the test, no color band is visible within the Result Window, the result is considered invalid. Some

causes of invalid results are not following the directions correctly or the test may have deteriorated beyond the expiration date.Limitations of the Test: Although the BodyTest Chlamydia is very accurate in detecting Chlamydia, a low incidence of false results can occur. Other clinically available tests are required if questionable results are obtained. As with all diagnostic tests, a definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based on the results of a single test, but should only be made by the physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated.

    Warnings

    1. The test should be used for one person only and should not be shared with another person.

    2. Decontaminate and dispose of all specimens, reaction kits, lancet needles and potentially contaminated materials, as if they were infectious wastes, in a biohazard container.

    3. Do not use the kit after the expiration date.

    4. For in vitro diagnostic use only. This kit is for external use only. Do not swallow.
